The new intranet redesign was focus on transitioning to the latest version of Sharepoint and improve the overall design and content to match the company culture and the external site design.


Discovery Process

User Archetypes

Our team interview a series of internal stakeholders from each department to better understand the needs and goals for each department. We wanted to understand the frequency of communication across departments and how important the intranet content is to the company culture.

Based on the information gather from the different stakeholder interviews, our team created a series of archetypes to outline the main needs and motivations for different user types. We divided the user archetypes in Primary and Secondary for the “Support Center” and the “Field” employees.

Information Architecture

During the discovery process we encountered that there was a lot of content that was not organized properly. There was out of date documents and duplicates. After talking to multiple content stakeholders we decided to do a content sorting exercise to identify how many documents needed to be organized better. We performed a content audit with each content owner to determine what documents needed to be kept.

Once the audit was completed, we also had a tree test exercise to allow users help organized the content of the new intranet. From there, our team created a new IA to allow am easier way to digest and find the content.
